Mac app store opened Thursday 1/6/11

Mac App store front page.  (Requires OS 10.6.6)

Apple has officially launched the Mac App store on January 6, 2011.  In order to get access to the store, you must have an Intel-based mac running OS 10.6.6 (Snow Leopard).  The purpose of the store is to provide Mac computer users with the same type of experience as iphone/ipod/ipad owners have while using the mobile App store.
